ARLEATER ELIZABETH JOHNSON

ARLEATER ("AJ") JOHNSON entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, April 29, 2020.  She was the daughter of the late Robert and Ella Johnson. 

Arleater was born on December 23, 1934 in Washington, DC. She attended the District of Columbia and Prince George’s County Public Schools and went on to obtain her CNA certificate from Freedom Hospital Nursing Program in 1952. She was employed at Glendale Hospital, Magnolia Gardens Nursing Home, and Prince George's Hospital, where she retired after 26 years of service in 1991. During her tenure with Prince George's Hospital she received many accolades, including employee of the month and employee of the year awards.

After retirement, Arleater spent time caring for young children in her neighborhood as well as her grandchildren. She was a loving, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend to all who had the distinct pleasure of encountering her during her lifetime and she will be dearly missed. 

Arleater enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, attending family events, and celebrating important moments with her love ones. She was always present for every graduation, engagement, wedding, and other celebrations with her bright, proud smile.

Arleater was preceded in death by her parents Robert and Ella Johnson, her children Michael Johnson and Marlene Kellman; grandchildren Carlos Johnson, Chrishawnda Johnson, and Shawn Rogers; siblings, Edna Spencer and Arlanda M. (Robert Lee) Johnson-Owens.

She leaves to cherish her memory: Children, Adrell Johnson (Carl), Sharon (Cookie) Davis (John), Kevin Johnson, Triane Clowers, Lisa Drew-Harden (Chico), Jeanne Pearson (Donnell), Karen (Shelly) Stewart, Curtis Stewart, Sr. (Amy); Bonus children including Janice Stewart, Leonardo Cole, Jackie Harrison; among others; Sisters Arlene Drake and Audrey (Robert Lee) Brown; Special friends including Ms. Long and Mr. Donald; as well as a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

A monitored visitation (Social Distancing and Masks Required) will be held from 10:00 a.m. until time of Private Service at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, May 18, 2020 at Henry S. Washington & Sons Co., Inc. funeral home, 4925-27 Nannie Helen Burroughs Avenue, N.E., Washington, DC 20019.  Monitored interment at Harmony Memorial Park, Hyattsville/Landover, Maryland.
