In Loving Memory of Shirley Anne Gaskins

August 13, 1935 – September 17, 2026

Shirley Anne White Gaskins, affectionately known as Shirley, peacefully passed away on September 17, 2026, at the age of 91. She was the beloved daughter of the late Mason T. White and Beatrice Catherine White and was born on August 13, 1935, in Washington, D.C. Shirley was the sixth and youngest child of her family and, at the time of her passing, was the last surviving sibling of six. She was preceded in death by her siblings Mason, Lorraine, Audrey, Rowena, and Sarah.

Shirley was united in marriage to the love of her life, William E. Gaskins, and they shared 47 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they built a beautiful family and raised six children.

Shirley began her professional career at St. Elizabeths Hospital before transitioning to the United States Postal Service. She devoted more than 35 years of service to the Postal Service and retired as a Motor Vehicle Analyst. Her career reflected her dedication, commitment, and strong work ethic.

Shirley leaves to cherish her beautiful memory her children, Edwin (Darlene), Wendell, Michael, and her only daughter, Laura; daughter-in-law, Lisa; 23 grandchildren, 52 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves three women she lovingly considered her daughters, Florine, Darlene, and Veronica, along with her loving godson, Dexter Hansford, and a host of extended family members, friends, neighbors, and loved ones whose lives were touched by hers.

Shirley was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William E. Gaskins, and two sons, Carleton A. Gaskins and William P. Gaskins.

She may have left this earthly home, but the love she gave and the memories she created will continue to live on for generations to come.
