On Saturday, 29 September 2018, Myrtle Grace Jackson—wife, mother, daughter, sister and Nurse, joined her Heavenly Father at the age of 92. She was born Myrtle Grace McLain on 18 May 1926 to parents William McLain and Bessie Starr-McLain. Myrtle had two brothers, Earl and William (Billy) who both preceded her into the Afterlife. She married twice: first to Lionel A. Desbordes and then to George E. Jackson. A Deanwood neighborhood resident most of her adult life, she supported and successfully reared her children to adulthood. Mrs. Jackson attended Howard University and Freedmens School of Nursing 1944-1950, graduating as a Registered Nurse (RN) with the Class of 1948. One to believe in a pursuit of life-long study, Myrtle also attended the University of Maryland, Catholic University, and Howard University pursuing credits toward a PhD. Myrtle is survived by her son, David (Bruna); daughter, Lisa; her Godson, Shelton "Nick" Nicholson (Catherene); 9 loving grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; extended family, fellow Wesley House residents and dear friends. Visitation 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, October 6, at Henry S. Washington & Sons Funeral Home, 4925-27 Nannie Helen Burroughs Avenue, N.E., Washington, DC 20019. Interment will be at Lincoln Memorial Cemetery, at a later date 4001 Suitland Road, Suitland, MD 20746.
