Mary Agnes McCray, departed this life on Thursday, April 23, 2026 at Adventist HealthCare White Oak Medical Center in Silver Spring, Maryland. She was born February 9, 1935 in Washington, DC to the late Joseph Smith and Maude C. Queen. Mary was a resident of Crescent Cities Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Riverdale, Maryland. She found joy whenever the Service Dogs would come around to visit the patients.

During Mary’s working years, she had been employed at the Bureau of Engraving. For those who knew her, one of her strongest attributes was to always take care of her family.

Mary was very close to her devoted nephew, William H. Coates (known to many as “Uncle Hank”). Uncle Hank predeceased her on Thursday, December 26, 2019. She is also predeceased by her great-nephew, William Coates (son of William H. and Patricia Coates).

She is survived by the wife of the late William H. Coates, Patricia Coates; their children (Mary’s great-nephew, DeMarco and great-niece, Dana); other great-nephews and great-nieces from Uncle Hank’s previous marriage: Tyrone, Debbie, Peeny, Rene and Timothy; other relatives and friends.
