James (Jim) Baxter, 79 a longtime resident of Landover, MD passed away peacefully after a long illness on Wednesday, February 24, 2021.

He was the 3rd son of the late John Baxter Sr. and Rosa Mitchell Baxter of Harmony Station and Rock Hill, SC.

James was educated in the York County Schools prior to relocating to the Washington/Maryland area. He was employed by Newell Decorating Co. for over 25 years.

James is survived by his loving wife Dinita Thomas Baxter, five children, sixteen grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.

One brother, Roosevelt Baxter Sr. of Landover, three sisters, Ida Baxter Brice, Fannie Baxter Hunt, both of Rock Hill, SC and Emma B. Thompson of Ballston Lake, NY. Two brothers in-law, Carlos M. Thompson of Ballston Lake, NY. and Vincent Thomas of Washington DC. Three sisters in-law, Dorothy Moore Baxter of Rock Hill, Donna Thomas and Kim Cannon of Washington, DC and lifelong friends Theodes Barnette of Rock Hill and James Knox of Landover, MD. James was predeceased by his son Jimmie O. Baxter and his older brother, John Baxter, Jr.

The funeral service will be held privately at The New Home Baptist Church, 8320 Landover Rd. Landover, MD 20785, for the immediate family.
