Obituary

Gloria Bernadette Brown, affectionately known as "Bernie", entered eternal life on Monday, June 8, 2020.  She was the daughter of the late Joyce A. Mathis, granddaughter of the late Benjamin A. Brown, II and Marion F. Dorsey Brown (The Grans), was born in Washington, D.C. on July 31, 1954. She leaves to cherish her loving memory, one son, Terry Tompkins (Michelle);  one sister, Tina Mathis;  two brothers, Michael Mathis (Jannette) and Marc Mathis (Alicia); four grandkids, Taylor C. Tompkins, Gregery Bynum, Jr., Jordan C. Tompkins and Gunner A. Tompkins; five nieces, Jamie Weaver, TeAhna Mathis (Jermaine), TiAnca Mathis, Tierra Mathis and Cailyn Mathis; one nephew, Semaj Weaver; two great-nephews, Nazir Mathis and Gianni Cooper; a host of bonus sisters, brothers, nieces, and nephews by way of the Mayhew family; one goddaughter, Lajuan Antoinette McDowney; one godson, Chris Heard; favorite cousin and best friend, Diane Heard;  three long-time friends, Priscilla Baymor, Lillian (Bobbi)  Wilson and Jacqui Melvin; and a multitude of other family and friends. An 11:00 a.m. Memorial Service (restricted to 10 designated masked attendees) will be held on Thursday, June 18, 2020 at Henry S. Washington & Sons Funeral Home Chapel, 4925-27 Nannie Helen Burroughs  Ave., NE, Washington, DC 20019.
