Rev. Benjamin Turner Holloway was called home on Wednesday, January 4, 2017 after a brief illness. He was born on July 8, 1918 in New Glasgow, Virginia to the late Charles Edward and Henrietta Annie Holloway. Rev. Holloway was educated in the New Glasgow School System. Rev. Holloway was employed by the U.S. Department of Treasury, Bureau of Engraving and Printing in Washington DC for over 30 years. He also drove a taxi cab for many years in the DC/MD area, this was an opportunity to share the gospel of Jesus Christ. His love of travel had him driving, cruising, and flying across the country as well as the Caribbean. Like his brother Arthur (aka Washington), he loved a good game of bowling. Also as a hobby, he liked to collect coins and to watch his favorite football team, the Washington Redskins. Rev. Holloway received his ministerial training under Rev. Fowler at the Washington Bible College in Washington, DC. He was ordained at the Covenant Baptist Church in Hyattville MD. where he became a teacher of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and taught Bible Study. He was also a past member of the Missionary Minister Baptist Conference in Washington DC and vicinity. He was a bible teacher at the St. James Baptist Church in Landover, MD; and taught noon day Bible Study at Community Bible Baptist Church in Lanham, MD, where the pastor is Rev. Wimbish. Following the loss of his wife, his loving and supportive brother Arthur brought him to live closer to him in his later years. Upon his relocation to Wayne NJ in 2013, he joined Calvary Baptist Church of Paterson NJ under the leadership of Rev. Randall m. Lassiter. While at Brookdale Assisted Living in Wayne NJ, he used his God given gift to lead Bible Study on Monday evening with the residents. He was predeceased by his wife the former Shirley Cherry Holloway, his parents Charles Edward and Henrietta Annie Jackson Holloway; 3 brothers: George Holloway, John Holloway and Alexander Holloway; 6 sisters: Viola and Julia Holloway, Lillian Miller, Edna Greenwood, Zellaria Johnson and Alpha Whitaker. He is survived by one brother, Arthur (Clara) Holloway of Paterson NJ, 2 nieces: Cynthia Holloway of Paterson NJ, Valerie (Darnell) Reels of Morris Plains NJ; 2 nephews: Robert Miller of Valrico FL, Charles Holloway of MD; and many other nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors; 5 stepchildren: Rev. John Young, Barbara Leach, David Young, Ivory Allen and John Cherry; 5 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Visitation 10 a.m., until time of service 11 a.m., on Saturday, January 14, at Community Bible Baptist Church, 7309 Riverdale Road, Lanham, MD 20706. Interment National Harmony Memorial Park.
