Gone too soon and loved by many was Dwayne Bradley Bartlett, affectionately known as "Big Dawg the Don," who passed to his rest on January 24, 2024.  He was born on January 14, 1960 and raised by loving parents Janice Elizabeth Williams, Arthella Bradley Webb, Jr., and Thomas Herbert Williams, Sr., in Kansas City, KS.  Family and church meant everything to him.  He was a member of Bethel Seventh-day Adventist Church in Kansas City, KS, where he was known for his solo in the youth choir singing James Cleveland's song, "Jesus is the Best Thing that Ever Happened to Me."  He was an avid sports fan of the Kansas City Chiefs and KC Royals.  He wore his jersey and ball cap on important game days.  His love for sports started in his early years, playing kickball, baseball and basketball in the 845 Garfield neighborhood.  He attended Northeast Junior High School, and Sumner High School where he was an all-star athlete of wrestling and swimming, winning many trophies and awards.  After graduating high School in 1978, he enlisted in the US Navy where he earned the rank of Chief Petty Officer (E-7).  He traveled to several countries and often shared interesting stories about his experiences.  He was proud to serve his country, and completed his service with an honorable discharge.

The Washington DC, Maryland, Virgina area (DMV) became his home where he worked in a career as a security officer.  He became a father of three beautiful daughters:  Anix Washington, D'Anna Bartlett, and Zhane Bartlett.  Dwayne loved and adored his daughters and spent much time doing the things they loved such as traveling, watching movies and gaming.  He retired after many years as a security officer, and spent time enjoying hobbies such as creating original art t-shirts, a cigar enthusiast, traveling, bowling, fishing, and playing Dominos, and Spades.

Dwayne is survived by his daughters, Anix Washington, D'Anna Bartlett, Zhane Bartlett, his mother, Janice Elizabeth Williams, his fathers, Arthella B. Webb, Jr., and Thomas H. Williams, Sr., his brothers, Ronnie Bartlett (Lehunani), Thomas Williams, Jr., Arthella Webb, III, his sisters Jana Williams-Selvey, Carla Minor (Patrick), Dana Williams, Kim Piner,  his uncle, Thomas Bartlett Jr., his aunts, Lola Anderson (Wardell), Julia Scott, Shirley Bartlett, and Elizabeth Johnson, along with a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

As we remember Dwayne, may we draw on inspiration from the Book of Romans 8:38-39, "For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord."  This verse encapsulates Dwayne's faith in the promise of God's love and power to save.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, with viewing from 9:00 am to 9:30 am, and reflections from 9:30 am to 10:00 am at the Henry S. Washington and Sons Co. Funeral Home, located at 4925 Nannie Helen Burroughs Avenue, Washington, DC 20019. Interment will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the Cheltenham Veterans Cemetary located at 11301 Crain Hwy., Cheltenham, MD 20623
